Visitors to the Great Yorkshire Show will be able to watch one of the BBC’s most popular TV programmes, The One Show, broadcast live, and see presenters Matt Baker and Alex Jones experience the sights and sounds of England’s premier farming and countryside event.
It is the first time the entire programme has been broadcast ‘live’ from an agricultural event. During the hour long programme on Wednesday 15 July, Matt and Alex will get an “as it happens” overview of the countryside extravaganza, with a behind the scenes look at what makes it tick, meeting the characters who are passionate about showing their animals as well as having a go at traditional rural skills.
Series Editor, Gareth Collett said: “The One Show likes to reflect what people are talking about and doing across the country. The Great Yorkshire Show has always been an important part of the year not only for the people of Yorkshire, but for the farming community as well, so it makes perfect sense for us to seize this opportunity to make our first visit to such a historic and still very relevant event. I also hear the pies are good.”
The famous One Show set, complete with sofa, will be recreated at the heart of the event on the President’s Lawn, overlooking the Main Ring. The magazine programme regularly attracts more than 4m viewers.
Bill Cowling, Show Director said: “The One Show has a hugely successful formula of combining the fun and quirky with information and insight, which is a similar ethos to our own. On the one hand we showcase the best of British farming and on the other it’s a fun day out for all the family so there is much synergy between us. I’m sure our visitors will relish seeing what lies behind creating a successful TV programme as well as meeting Matt, Alex and the team as they experience the Great Yorkshire Show for themselves.”
